On December 15, 2025, H.E. Ms. Nagma Mallick, Ambassador of India to Japan, paid a courtesy visit to Rev. Kyoichi Sugino, President of Gakurin Seminary, at Gakurin Seminary.
The meeting began with reflections on India’s historical and philosophical contributions to Buddhism and broader Asian spiritual civilizations, and continued with a wide-ranging exchange on contemporary global challenges such as division and conflict, and the vital role of interreligious dialogue and cooperation in addressing them.
The discussion also explored the significance of cultural diplomacy, emphasizing how religious and cultural traditions can serve as constructive forces for peacebuilding and mutual understanding in international society.
Ambassador Mallick expressed strong interest in Gakurin Seminary’s long-standing commitment to international interreligious dialogue and cooperation, particularly its educational efforts to nurture religious leaders dedicated to peace, ethics, and global responsibility.
This courtesy visit reaffirmed the enduring importance of India’s spiritual heritage and highlighted the growing significance of Gakurin’s mission in advancing practical and international interreligious cooperation in today’s complex global context.
